I wanted to share a few pictures of the latest Pangur Bán sweater. I have it all ready to be shipped off to California but wanted to document it as much as possible! It’s a funny thing, dedicating countless hours to knitting a garment and then shipping them off to their new homes – you so often forget about things that you have knitted! Instagram has been good in a lot of ways to go back and remember different things that I’ve made in the past, however I find blogging about it just a wee bit more personal. And I don’t feel like there are these silly rules about how many pictures I can post 😀
You can see the wool (Léttlopi) I used on the Alafoss Website. The main colour is hazel heather and the contrasting colours are beige, black heather, oatmeal heather. I guess I didn’t take too many pictures of the process, so I hope you enjoy the few that I did 🙂
And so, without further ado, here are some photos of my latest handknit sweater (you can read more about the design of this sweater in one of my first posts!).
Off she goes today! I am being swamped at home right now with chores upon chores to do before we catch our flight in Halifax this Friday. I can hardly believe that in a week’s time, we will be driving on the left side of the road and in the country of my ancestors. I have a lot to share with you all before we go and will likely afterwards as well! We have had a lot of rain which has made the PEI country side so lush and wonderful. It’s hard not to be happy in the midst of all the green and warmth! Especially when hiking in the mountains on the other side of the Atlantic is just before us!
I am on the fence currently about bringing any knitting on the trip. For some reason, I am hesitant to bring knitting needles on the plane – I have read that it should be fine, but I remember once I had my knitting in my bag when a friend and myself went on a tour of the Parliament Buildings (just for fun one random afternoon when I lived in Ottawa) and they took my knitting from me and sealed it in a bag! I may go scout out some wooden circular needles tonight (cross fingers that such thing exists in PEI!). I do hope to, we have a 5 hour lay over in St. John’s and a long plane ride which I will be incapable of getting any rest >.<
Anyhow, my family is coming tomorrow to house sit for us and I have SO much to do before! Getting very excited! I may be very stereotypical and post a packing for Ireland blog, if I have time!!!

What a beautiful sweater! You live on a beautiful side of the island.
I’m excited for you and your trip! What? You HAVE to bring knitting! Even if it is for the flight! I cannot leave my house without any knitting of any kind. I always have it with me.
I am sure you have heard of the Ottawa River flooding. Our town has been greatly affected. The ground is too wet still for even thinking of gardening. I look at all your little plants with envy! The sun is finally out today. It was snowing yesterday and this morning, there was ice on my windshield when I left for work. It is very cold.

I know, what am i thinking not bringing knitting eh? The thought of having it confiscated just pains me lol 😀 But now that I remember, I had knitting when I went to Iceland so I should def just cast on my latest lopapeysa and pack it in my backpack!
I was engrossed in watching the news yesterday for the Ottawa area and heard that there was snow as well. It looks insane, I could hardly believe it! I do hope you and your family and neighbours are fine and that those that have been greatly affected will receive all the help to overcome this quickly.
I always remember the Richelieu River flooding (near where my parents are from) but not so much the Ottawa River. I really hope that there is a drastic change in weather for you very very soon! We have had surprisingly very pleasant spring weather – lots of rain but it has just been making everything grow and bloom – quite a contrast because usually I am longing for Ontario springs.

Good idea to bring a lopapeysa to knit! You will come back with something for your shop!
I have never seen a flood in this region. I have seen some in the Quebec regions and Winnipeg but not here. Fortunately, my family and I were not directly affected. I was out there on the weekend bagging sand for those who were. It will warm up this week but unfortunately, rain for the weekend… again.

What an exciting time for you, Julia! My aunt and uncle just got back from visiting Ireland last week and were enthralled by the green-ness! Apparently they’re a few weeks ahead of us in the spring department!
I was in Toronto about a month ago and was a bit nervous about taking my metal needles along in my carry on, but didn’t have a problem. Hopefully it will be okay for you!

The sweater is so beautiful. I really like the colours you used, maybe I should try those for my first Icelandic knit? I haven’t decided on what pattern to use, though. And unlike you, I have no idea how to make one. Right now I am still trying to finish off two other knits, so I have time to think.
You could bring a book on the plane? Or three…? 🙂 You know, I really love to knit. I have knitted for eight-nine years now without ever stopping. (Well, only for breaks like eating, sleeping and giving birth a few times.. 🙂 ) but when you go on a holiday, maybe you should just do that? And not think about your shop? 🙂

Hello Julia! Pack the needles and wool to keep you sane on the long flight! You shouldn’t have any problem at all. Wool is light weight, packs easy because you can squish it into every little nook and cranny of a backpack/suitcase. And at the speed you knit, you could have a new sweater to wear while on the trip! (I always travel with a knit project in tow, sometimes completing it to wear while still on the trip.) I am feeling so much excitement and good strong energy for you now and for your upcoming adventures across the pond. Looking forward to hearing/seeing all about it! p.s. I have a number of handmade pottery mugs that cracked or broke and now serve as holders for pens/pencils, crystals/gemstones, plants, little balls of yarn, etc. Even if they break in multiple pieces, I glue them back as best as possible and re-purpose them. Just can’t throw them out. Though they cannot hold liquids anymore, they still hold all the love and creative energy of their makers.

My sister and I are on Hiatus right now until likely August. My partner and I sold our house on PEI and moved to a Nova Scotia, so we are currently settling and adjusting to the move! Once I am a little more settled, I’ll open our shop again and have many knits and new patterns available. Thanks for the inquiry and I apologize for the extremely late reply 🙂
